SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's tennis member Alan Magadan has been named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week; the league office announced Wednesday.
Magadan helped lead UTSA to a perfect 2-0 week, downing both 53rd-ranked Florida Atlantic and 66th-ranked Wichita State, resulting in the Roadrunners earning their highest ranking (47) in school history.
Magadan himself went 4-0 across all his matches this past week, going undefeated in both singles and doubles action. Magadan did this despite being paired up with a new doubles partner for the first time this season in Tiago Torres.
On Friday, against fellow C-USA school FAU, Magadan and Torres bested the Owls' best doubles team 6-2 before Magadan defeated Alberto Colas (2-6, 6-2, 6-1) on the two line.
On Sunday, Magadan and Torres downed their doubles opponent from Wichita State, by a score of 7-5. Magadan then made short work of his Shocker opponent, Misha Kvantaliani, in two sets (6-3, 6-4).
In singles play, Magadan is 5-5 on the season and has won his last four matches. In doubles action, Magadan holds a 4-4 record and has won the last two matches with Torres.
