ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Oreoluwa Adamson earned second-team All-America accolades in the women's long jump on Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Adamson finished 15th in her first appearance in a national meet to become the program's 15th female All-American and the third to earn those honors in the long jump.
A native of London, England, Adamson opened the competition with a mark of 5.99 meters (19-8) before nearly matching that with a 5.98m (19-7.5) measurement on her second trip down the runway. She then posted a 5.92m (19-5.25) effort on her third attempt but ended up outside the top nine who earned three more jumps.
Florida's Jasmine Moore won the long jump crown with a record-setting performance, leaping to a mark of 7.03m (23-0.75) on her first try to break the collegiate, meet and facility records.
Adamson qualified for the national field after leaping to a school-record mark of 6.46m (21-2.5) to win the Conference USA crown last month in Birmingham, Alabama.
Adamson's top-16 finish marked the second straight All-America certificate in the women's long jump, as Ingeborg Gruenwald collected second-team accolades last year after finishing 13th with a mark of 6.24m (20-5.75). Additionally, Tameka Roberts was a three-time All-American in the long jump, placing fifth at the 1995 NCAA Outdoor and 11th the following year to go with a sixth-place leap of 6.21m (20-4.5) at the 1996 NCAA Indoor.
UTSA now has collected a total of 28 All-America certificates on the women's side, including nine at an NCAA Indoor Championships. Five of those honors have come since 2019, as Danielle Spence was a second-team All-American in the triple jump that year and again last June at the NCAA Outdoor. In addition to Gruenwald's second-team honor a year ago, Maia Campbell earned honorable mention All-America plaudits in the shot put at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor.
