Bott paces UTSA on opening day of Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. — Hunter Bott is in the top 20 individuals and the UTSA men's golf team is in a tie for 10th place after the opening day of the Louisiana Classics, which teed off on Monday at Oakbourne Country Club (par 71/6,898 yards).
 
Bott has a share of 16th after carding a 5-over-par 147 and the Roadrunners are deadlocked with New Orleans in 10th in the team standings through 36 of the 54 scheduled holes. 
 
Bott opened the tournament with an even-par scorecard on Monday morning. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, recorded birdies on the 459-yard, par-4 fifth and the 195-yard, par-3 15th holes en route to a 71 to put himself in a tie for second after the first round. He then settled for a 76 in the afternoon on the strength of three more birdies, and he is one shot out of the top 10 individuals in the 84-man field.
 
David Harrison is tied for 38th at 11-over 153 after the opening day. The senior from Trophy Club, Texas, posted a 75 in the first round and then registered a 78 in the afternoon.
 
Brayden Bare and Christian Fanfelle are two shots back in a tie for 54th. Each player posted a 76-79—155 with Fanfelle writing down four birdies for the day, including three in the opening round, and Bare recording all three of his birdies in round two.
 
Jack Wehman rounds out the UTSA lineup in 65th (80-77—157).
 
UTSA turned in rounds of 298 and 310 and sits at 608, one shot behind Michigan and three ahead of New Mexico State and SMU, with 18 holes remaining.
 
No. 15 Texas A&M leads the 14-team field at 11-over 579, followed by Sam Houston (+16), No. 32 Little Rock (+19), 47th-ranked LSU (+23) and host Louisiana (+25) in the top five.
 
There is a three-way tie for the individual lead at 1-over 143 between Eli Ortego of Louisiana, Anton Albers of Little Rock and Kyle Bennett of New Orleans.
 
The final round will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
