HUMBLE, Texas — David Harrison tied for 33rd place to lead the UTSA men's golf team to a 17th-place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Golf Club of Houston's Tournament Course (par 72/7,067 yards).
Entering the final round with a share of 57th, Harrison fired a 1-under-par 71 to climb more than 20 places and finish at 5-over 221. Starting on No. 15, the senior from Trophy Club, Texas, registered 10 consecutive pars before a bogey on the 175-yard, par-3 seventh hole. He rebounded with back-to-back birdies on the next two holes and then added one more on the 575-yard, par-5 13th to help offset a bogey on his final hole. He ended up with 38 pars for the week, fifth most in the field of more than 100 players.
Paced by Harrison's 71, the Roadrunners posted their best team score of the event with a 6-over 294 on Tuesday. UTSA ended up in 17th with an 899 (297-308-294), eight strokes ahead of Charleston Southern and 24 in front of Conference USA foe Rice.
Christian Fanfelle finished in a tie for 51st at 8-over 224. The super senior from San Antonio started the week with an even-par 72 and then bounced back from a 79 with a 73 that featured an eagle on the 560-yard, par-5 eighth hole and a trio of birdies.
Hunter Bott was a pair of shots behind Fanfelle in a tie for 57th at 10-over 226. The senior out of Montgomery, Texas, posted his second 75 of the tournament on Tuesday after logging a 76 in the second round.
Jack Wehman also posted a 75 in the final round and finished 68th with a 228 (74-79-75), while Brayden Bare rounded out the lineup in 104th (79-79-81—239).
No. 29 Ole Miss captured the team title at 9-under 855, followed by 14th-ranked Tennessee (-5), No. 36 Louisville (-5), No. 17 Kansas State (+2) and Sam Houston (+4) in the top five of the 21-team field that included two additional nationally ranked squads.
Jake Hall of Tennessee won the individual crown with a 7-under 209 (68-69-72).
Meanwhile, a pair of Roadrunners played outside the lineup in the All-American Individual on the Members Course (par 72/7,508 yards).
Patrick Kahanek tied for 13th place with a 9-over 225 that featured a 1-under 71 sandwiched between two 77s, while Carson Gallaher placed 27th with a 239 (76-84-79).
The Roadrunners will return to the course on April 10-11 at The Aggie Invitational in Bryan, Texas.
