DALLAS — UTSA junior Jacob Jenkins has been named Conference USA Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Jenkins won the triple jump and finished fourth in the long jump at the Charles Austin Classic last weekend in San Marcos, Texas. A transfer from Round Rock, Texas, he registered his first win as a Roadrunner after posting a mark of 15.00 meters (49-2.5) on his second trip down the runway in the triple jump. He also leaped to a season-best distance of 7.37m (24-2.25) to finish fourth in the long jump at the two-day meet.
Jenkins currently ranks third nationally and second in C-USA in the triple jump with his season-best mark of 15.77m (51-9) posted at the Longhorn Invitational, and he now stands fifth in the league and 41st in the NCAA in the long jump.
This marks the second straight week that a Roadrunners has been named C-USA Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week after Jemuel Miler was honored on March 21, while it also gives UTSA five total honors in 2023. Oreoluwa Adamson and Christiaan Le Roux swept the C-USA Indoor Field Athlete of the Week accolades on Jan. 17.
UTEP's Denae McFarlane and Rice's Mckyla Van der Westhuizen were named C-USA Outdoor Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, while Charlotte's Nick Scudder won the men's track award. The C-USA Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.
The Roadrunners will return to action this Wednesday-Saturday, March 29-April 1, at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin.
