DALLAS — UTSA junior Jack Turner has been named Conference USA Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Turner leaped to a meet record and personal best in the long jump and posted a pair of additional career marks at the Cactus Cup last Saturday in Kingsville, Texas. The junior from England soared to a distance of 7.79 meters (25-6.75) to break the previous meet standard of 7.53m set by Angelo State's Trevor Rodgers in 2011 and move into a tie for fourth on UTSA's all-time performers list. He currently leads the league and stands 20th nationally in the long jump.
A five-time conference champion in the multi events, Turner also cleared 4.70m (15-5) to claim second place in the pole vault and finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 43.22m (141-9), both personal bests.
This marks the seventh weekly award for the Roadrunners this year, including the fourth during the outdoor campaign. Jemuel Miller (3/21) and Jacob Jenkins (3/28) were named C-USA Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week, while the 4x200-meter relay team of Brice Chabot, Dennis Phillips, Trevion McCalla and Mike Roth earned the C-USA Outdoor Male Track Athlete of the Week honor on April 4. Miller also collected the weekly field award indoors on Feb. 7, while Oreoluwa Adamson and Christiaan Le Roux swept the C-USA Indoor Field Athlete of the Week accolades on Jan. 17.
Victor Kibiego of UTEP was named C-USA Outdoor Male Track Athlete of the Week, while Maya Singletary from Charlotte and UTEP's Arianne Morais claimed the weekly awards on the women's side. The C-USA Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.
The Roadrunners will return to action this Friday-Saturday, April 21-22, at the J Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston.
