SAN ANTONIO — Fresh off an impressive performance at the Cactus Cup last Saturday, the UTSA track & field teams will travel to Houston for the J Fred Duckett Twilight this Saturday, April 22, at Wendel D. Ley Track on the Rice University campus.
The Roadrunners will compete against athletes from Houston, Houston Christian, Lamar, McNeese, Nicholls, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Southern and UTRGV, among others
The meet will get underway with field events beginning at 10 a.m. The afternoon session of track events is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m., followed by the evening session at 6 p.m.
UTSA broke five meet records and won eight events at the Cactus Cup last Saturday in Kingsville, Texas.
Alanah Yukich set meet records in the women's 400m (54.91) and 100-meter hurdles (13.76), while Marilis Remmel improved her own school record in the javelin with a meet-record toss of 48.76 meters (160-0).
Five-time conference champion Jack Turner leaped to a meet-record distance of 7.79m (25-6.75) in the long jump and was named Conference USA Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week for his effort.
Meanwhile, Mike Roth, the 2023 C-USA Indoor High Point Scorer, clocked a 46.73 to surpass the meet standard in the 400m for the men.
That group was joined in the winner's circle by All-American Bashiru Abdullahi (110m hurdles), Michael Campbell (shot put) and 2022 C-USA Outdoor Freshman of the Meet Thennelle Williams (100m).
The Roadrunners won three events at last year's J Fred Duckett Twilight. All-American Ingeborg Gruenwald soared to victory in the women's long jump with a mark of 6.36 meters (20-10.5), Sigrid Kleive took top honors in the women's javelin with a throw of 41.52m (136-2) and All-American Jemuel Miller grabbed gold in the men's triple jump with a measurement of 15.57m (51-1).
