SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced Wednesday that the program has signed Mia Lien, a four-time national champion from Jakobsli, Norway, to the 2023 signing class.
Lien has captured four Norwegian titles during her accomplished career including three in the long jump. She swept the national crowns in 2020, leaping 5.97 meters (19-7) indoors and 6.22m (20-5) outdoors at the where she also cleared 1.80m (5-10.75) to capture gold in the high jump. She claimed another championship in the long jump with a 6.20m (20-4.25) measurement at the 2022 Norwegian Indoor Championships.
"We're thrilled about signing Mia Lien," Fox said. "She's an excellent all-around athlete who has developed into an elite jumper. We can't wait for her to join our program and watch her succeed in competition and in the classroom."
Lien currently ranks 95 in the world in the long jump and owns a personal-best leap of 6.31m (20-8.5). She boasts a top clearance of 1.82m (5-11.5) in the high jump and has clocked career-best times of 8.54 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and 13.88 in the 100m hurdles. She also has tallied a top score of 5,094 points in the heptathlon, which came at the 2020 Norwegian U18 Combined Events Championships.
Lien is the 10th member of the signing class, as she joins Abby Barraza, Ida Breigan, Taylor Cochran, Marissa Espinoza, Melody Espinoza, Edlin Laur, Jadelyn Malesich and current Roadrunners Jabari Bennett and Ayumi Kobayashi.
