Carreon, Abonce garner all-conference accolades

DALLAS — UTSA senior Camryn Carreon and freshman Daniela Abonce have earned All-Conference USA honors with the Wednesday unveiling of the league's women's golf postseason awards.

Carreon, who will play in the NCAA San Antonio Regional on May 8-10 at TPC San Antonio, was named to the first team for the second straight season after landing on the second team in 2021. The senior owns a 72.85 stroke average in 2022-23, including a 71.73 mark in the spring. She has finished in the top 10 in three straight and six overall tournaments and has turned in 15 par-or-better scorecards, including six sub-70 rounds.

Carreon smashed school records for low 18- and 54-hole scores en route to claiming her first collegiate win at the Trinity Forest Invitational on March 6-7 in Dallas, firing a 7-under 65 on the final day to close out a 14-under-par 202, earning C- USA Golfer of the Week honors for her performance. An Incarnate Word High School graduate, she was tabbed to the all-tournament team after carding a 2-over 218 (77-69-72) to finish fourth at the C-USA Championship last month.

Abonce collected third-team all-conference plaudits for her true freshman campaign. The Veracruz, Mexico, native registered a 74.94 stroke average and six par-or-better rounds while playing in nine events in 2022-23. She logged her best finish at the C-USA Championship last month when she tied for 15th after posting a 229 (75-76-78). She grabbed a share of 16th at the Dale McNamara Invitational last October after carding a 221 (74-75-72) and turned in her top 54-hole score of the season with a 3-over 219 (71-76-72) at the Jim West Challenge.

With these two all-conference selections, UTSA now has garnered 42 all-conference certificates in its 18-year history, including 14 in six seasons under head coach Summer Batiste, a two-time C-USA Coach of the Year honoree.
