SAN ANTONIO — Bashiru Abdullahi, Oreoluwa Adamson, Joel McFarlane and Jack Turner will represent UTSA at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Abdullahi will race in the semifinal round of the men's 110-meter hurdles at 7:32 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, with the final slated for 8:42 p.m. Friday, June 9. The senior from Nigeria is seeking his second straight All-America certificate in the event after earning second-team honors last year following a 15th-place finish. He punched his ticket to Austin after clocking a time of 13.61 seconds to finish eighth in the quarterfinal round at the NCAA West Preliminary.
Adamson is looking to collect her second All-America certificate of the calendar year, as she is set to appear in the women's long jump at 9 p.m. Thursday, June 8. The junior from England garnered second-team accolades with a 15th-place showing at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. She has advanced to the NCAA Outdoor for the first time after recording a seventh-place leap of 6.29 meters (20-7.75) at the NCAA West Preliminary.
McFarlane and Turner will compete in the men's decathlon, which is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and 12 p.m. Thursday. Turner, who hails from England, enters the competition ranked sixth nationally after piling up a school record 8,011 points while winning his third Conference USA crown last month. McFarlane, a native of Scotland, heads to Austin with the 22nd-best point total in the field, a personal best 7,661 points scored during a bronze-medal performance at the league meet.
UTSA boasts 36 All-Americans who have combined to collect a total of 69 certificates in the sports of cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field. A total of 21 men have collected 41 certificates, while 15 women have picked up 28 honors. A total of 47 of the All-America certificates have been earned outdoors, 30 on the men's and 17 by the women's program.
ESPN Networks will provide live coverage of the meet. Live video will be available on ESPN+ beginning at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and 12 p.m. Thursday, while ESPN2 will begin its coverage at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
