SAN ANTONIO — On Wednesday, UTSA women's basketball head coach Karen Aston officially announced the 2023-24 nonconference basketball schedule that will see 11 games, plus an exhibition, ahead of the team's inaugural American Athletic Conference season.
“I am excited about our nonconference schedule this year,” said Aston. “Our main focus was to add a few more home games this year. We are thrilled to continue a series with UTEP and Houston and excited about the trip to the Western Coast before Christmas. It is a very challenging schedule, but I believe we have to prepare for the rigors of conference play and the challenges ahead of us in the American.”
Fans will first see the squad on Nov. 1 as they host St. Mary's (TX) in an exhibition at the Convocation Center. From there, the season will officially begin on Nov. 6 in Tempe, Arizona, with a matchup against Arizona State scheduled inside Desert Financial Arena.
The team will return to the Lone Star State for their next six, first inviting New Mexico State into the Convo on Nov. 10. The Runners' will then meet Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 15 in the first of four consecutive road bouts. After taking on the Islanders, the squad will travel to Arlington, Texas, for a Nov. 18 faceoff with UT Arlington, ahead of a trip to Lubbock, Texas, where they'll battle a team that reached the third round of the WNIT in Texas Tech on Nov. 20. The road trip concludes on Nov. 25 as the team visits Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas.
UTSA will meet another WNIT participant on Nov. 30 as they host Texas State in the Battle of I-35, with a matchup with UTEP awaiting in the Convo on Dec. 3. In the final home contest of the nonconference slate, Houston will visit the Convocation Center with the Cougars and Roadrunners set to faceoff on Dec. 14.
Wrapping up the nonconference slate, UTSA will visit the Pacific Northwest to take on Oregon in a Dec. 17 matchup at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore., before meeting Seattle on Dec. 19 in the Emerald City.
