SAN ANTONIO — UTSA freshman Brock Blais turned in an even-par scorecard to lead the UTSA men’s golf team on the final day of the Valero Texas Collegiate, which concluded Monday at TPC San Antonio Oaks Course (par 72/7,034 yards).
Blais carded a 72 that featured four birdies to help the Roadrunners turn in an 8-over-par 296 for the second straight round and finish in 10th place in the team standings. UTSA ended up with an 882, seven shots ahead of Louisville and 12 in front of Georgia Southern, while finishing only five strokes behind ninth-place Georgia.
David Harrison led the Roadrunners during the tournament with a 3-over 219 to finish in a tie for 27th. The senior from Trophy Club, Texas, opened the 54-hole event with a 72 and then posted a 69 on Sunday before settling for a 78 today that was headlined by a birdie on the 555-yard, par-5 second hole.
Hunter Bott was one shot behind his teammate in a tie for 31st at 4-over 220. The senior all-conference performer posted his second consecutive 1-over 73 on Monday on the strength of 13 pars and birdies on the 315-yard, par-4 fifth and 162-yard, par-3 16th holes.
Jack Wehman grabbed a share of 38th with a 224. After opening with a 72, he bounced back from a 77 with a 1-over 73 today that was highlighted by birdies on the 589-yard, par-5 eighth and 381-yard, par-4 11th holes.
Blais’ 72 helped him jump eight places into 50th with a 224, as the freshman form Florida registered a 75-77—152 through the first 36 holes.
Walker Franklin rounded out the UTSA lineup in 67th (72-81-80—233) and Bryson Thurston placed 72nd (86-83-77—246) while playing as an individual.
Vanderbilt captured the team title with a 13-under 851, followed by TCU (-8) and Baylor (-4) in the top three of the 12-team field.
The individual crown came down to a three-man playoff between Baylor’s Johnny Keefer, Florida Gulf Coast’s Joe Sullivan and TCU’s Gustav Frimodt, who all shared the lead at 6-under 210 through 54 holes. Sullivan earned the exemption into the 2024 Valero Texas Open after making a birdie on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.
The Roadrunners will return to the course on Sept. 25-26 when they travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate.
