SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox on Wednesday announced that the program has signed Charlie Staddon, a top-ranked hurdler in the United Kingdom who hails from Bath, England.
“We’re thrilled about adding Charlie Staddon to the UTSA track & field program,” Fox said. “He’s one of the top young hurdlers in the U.K. and he has already produced incredible results in such a short period of time working with legendary hurdles coach Julie Alexander. We can’t wait to get him to San Antonio and help him reach his goals in the classroom and in competition.”
Ranked in the top five in the U20 110-meter hurdles in the U.K. and in the top 15 for the U18 110m hurdles in the Commonwealth, Staddon was the 2023 English Schools bronze medalist in the 110m hurdles after clocking a personal-best time of 14.08 seconds in Birmingham. He had more than five runner-up finishes in the event in 2023 alone, including at the England U20 Open Championships and at the Loughborough International, where he clocked a 14.09.
A two-time South West of England champion in the 400m hurdles, Staddon clocked a personal best 57.32 at the 2023 Loughborough Open.
Indoors, Staddon peeled off a lifetime-best clocking of 8.09 to win the 60m hurdles at the 2023 Loughborough Indoor Open. He opened the 2024 calendar year by finishing third in the 60m hurdles with an 8.28 clocking at the Welsh Athletics Indoor Championships.
