SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox has announced that the Roadrunners have signed Norwegian hurdler Selma Ims to join the Roadrunners next fall for the 2024-25 season.
“Selma Ims is one of the top junior hurdlers in Norway and is an emerging star at the European and World junior levels.” Fox said. "She's a very talented addition to next year's team and we can’t wait to watch her progress this year and help her to reach her potential both on the track and in the classroom.”
Ims comes to San Antonio from Sandnes, Norway, fresh off earning gold in the 100m and the 400m hurdles on a 59.37 career mark at the Norwegian U20 Championships in August. In addition, she also took home the silver medal in the 100m hurdles, registering a 14.04 at the meet. She set her personal-best in the 100m at 11.84 while finishing sixth at the Norwegian Championships in July. Ims also earned second at Manheim, Germany’s DLV Junioren Gala in June and secured her current career-best 13.62 in the short hurdles last August in Jerusalem at the European U20.
Ims earned first (100m), second (200m) and third (100mH) at the Nordic Championships in July. She also represented Norway at the 2023 European Athletics U20 Championships in Jerusalem, competing in the 100m hurdles and as a member of Norway’s 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
In indoor competition, Ims also recorded an 8.50 in the 60m hurdles at Sørvestmesterskapet, February 2022 in Sandnes.
Along with sprints and hurdles, Ims has grown progressively stronger this year in the long jump, reaching a mark of 6.03m (19-9.5 ft.) in September at the Norwegian U20 Meeting in Bergen.
Her mother competed in track at LSU, also earning a pair of silver medals at the Norwegian Championships before moving to Baton Rouge.
