NASSAU, The Bahamas — Camryn Carreon carded a 1-under-par scorecard to lead the way for the UTSA women’s golf team in the second round of the Nexus Collegiate on Tuesday at Albany Golf Club (par 72/6,544 yards).
Carreon posted a 1-under-par 71 — her 12th par-or-better score of the season — on the second day of the 54-hole event, bouncing back from an opening-round 78 on Monday. The senior from San Antonio wrote down five birdies on Tuesday, including three on the front nine en route to a 2-under 74 on that side. Her red number helped the 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional champion vault 26 places up the leaderboard into a tie for 20th at 5-over 149 with 18 holes left to play on Wednesday.
Daniela Abonce sits in a tie for 31st at 6-over 150 as the next-highest Roadrunner in the individual standings. The sophomore from Veracruz, Mexico, followed a 76 on Monday with a 74 that featured birdies on the 318-yard, par-4 seventh, 309-yard, par-4 14th and 415-yard, par-4 18th holes.
Olivia Williams is in a tie for 49th (75-81—156), Morgan Ellison is 57th (81-78—159) and Federica Tavelli Westerlund is 62nd (82-81—163) to round out the UTSA lineup.
The Roadrunners recorded a six-shot improvement from their opening round team total with a 304 and they remain in 10th place, two shots ahead of Boston College and 10 behind Michigan.
Playing outside the lineup, Maria Bastarrica has a share of 35th at 8-over 152 (77-75).
Kentucky leads the team standings with a 285-294—579 while Illinois’ Isabel Sy tops the individual leaderboard with a 70-69—139.
The final round is set for a 7 a.m. CT shotgun start on Wednesday.
