UTSA football program recognized by City of San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor and several members of the Roadrunners’ football program were recognized by the City of San Antonio on Thursday afternoon at the Municipal Plaza Building.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg read a proclamation and District 4 Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia delivered congratulatory remarks to highlight the accomplishments of the 2023 senior class.

Today’s ceremony was attended by a number of those seniors who over the past four years helped the Roadrunners win 39 games, capture back-to-back conference championships — the first two in program history — and play in four straight bowl games including the school’s first bowl win, a 35-17 victory over Marshall last December in the Frisco Bowl.

The 2023 Frisco Bowl triumph capped a 9-4 season for the Roadrunners, which included a 7-1 mark and third-place finish in their debut campaign in the American Athletic Conference.

The Roadrunners currently are in their second week of spring practice, which will be capped with the UTSA Football Fiesta Spring Game, an official Fiesta San Antonio event that is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Alamodome. Admission is free and doors will open to the public at 1 p.m. Fan seating will be general admission on the Plaza (100) Level on the East sideline only.

UTSA will kick off its 14th season of play and second as a member of the American Athletic Conference on Saturday, Aug. 31, against Kennesaw State at the Alamodome.

The Roadrunners also have home games scheduled against Houston Christian (Sept. 21), Florida Atlantic (Oct. 19), Memphis (Nov. 2), North Texas (Nov. 15) and Temple (Nov. 22 or 23).

UTSA will play road contests at Texas State (Sept. 7), Texas (Sept. 14), East Carolina (Sept. 28), Rice (Oct. 12), Tulsa (Oct. 26) and Army (Nov. 30).

Fans can purchase season tickets online or by calling the UTSA Ticket Office at 210-458-UTSA (8872) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Current UTSA football season-ticket holders may renew their tickets by logging into their UTSA Account Manager.
