Roadrunners race to top of leaderboard on day one of UNF Collegiate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The UTSA women’s golf team has raced to the top of the leaderboard after the opening day of the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate, which teed off on Monday at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club (par 72/6,020 yards).

The 19-team field completed the first round, but the second was suspended due to darkness with most golfers having made the turn. Round two will resume Tuesday morning followed immediately by the final 18 holes.

Paced by Camryn Carreon and Morgan Ellison, who both are currently in the top 10, UTSA is 8-under par and has opened up a seven-shot lead ahead of a tie for second at 1-under between Chattanooga and host North Florida. The Roadrunners fired a 6-under 282 in the first round and currently sit at 2-under par in the second round.

Carreon is in a tie for fourth place at 6-under, while Ellison has a share of seventh at 3-under.

Carreon, a senior from San Antonio, opened the event with a 3-under 69 that featured five birdies, three in a row on Nos. 8-10. She has recorded scores on 15 holes in her second round, currently sitting at 3-under for the round thanks to four birdies as part of a 32 on the front side.

Ellison, a junior from Georgia, also started her week with a 69 that was highlighted by four birdies, all as part of a 4-under 32 on the front. She has made it through 15 holes of the second round and is sitting at even par to keep her in the red for the tournament.

Daniela Abonce is part of a five-way tie for 15th at even par. The sophomore from Mexico opened with a 74 but currently sits at 2-under through 15 holes of the second round thanks to a trio of birdies.

Olivia Williams is tied for 37th at 3-over par after carding a 1-under 71 in the morning, and Maria Bastarrica rounds out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 45th at 4-over.

UNF’s Christin Eisenbeiss has the individual lead at 11-under par. All results for the second round are still unofficial.
