SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced on Thursday that the program will welcome highly decorated in-state talent Kyla Hill, signing one of the best high school hurdlers in the nation from this season. The Goliad hurdler will join the Roadrunners for the 2024-25 season, fresh off her overall seventh state title and fourth straight in the hurdles.
“It’s a really exciting opportunity to bring this caliber of in-state talent to San Antonio,” Fox said. “Kyla Hill is a proven and decorated competitor in the high school ranks and will compete at a very high level on the collegiate stage. We can’t wait to get to work developing her ability on the track and helping her to succeed in her academic goals.”
A 2024 graduate of Goliad High School, Hill collected her fourth consecutive 300m hurdles 3A UIL State Championship in May with a personal-best time of 41.04 – ranking as the second-fastest time in the state and fourth in the nation this year. At the 2024 championships, Hill also garnered third place in the triple jump at 11.84m (38-10.25), notching her third state medal in the event, including her 2022 state title on a career-best 11.93m (39-1.75) measurement. She also earned bronze twice in the 100m hurdles with a top time of 14.33 seconds. Across her career, Hill helped Goliad’s relays to reach the State podium, anchoring the 2021 4x400m and 2022 4x200m relays to gold medals, while adding a 4x100m bronze in 2022 and a 4x400m silver on a 54.5 anchor split at this year’s state championships. In total, Hill leaves Goliad in possession of 13 UIL State medals and five school records, having set the state championships 300m hurdles mark twice and led Goliad to runner-up finishes each of the past four years (2021-24). She’s also a decorated volleyball player, finishing up as Goliad’s 2023 All-Around Player of the Year and named to the TGCA and Blue Bell/TSWA All-State Volleyball teams – closing her career with 1,204 kills, 845 digs, 499 assists, 119 blocks and 209 aces. Her sister, Karleigh, competes in jumps and hurdles at Tarleton, while her father, David, played football at SMU.
