UTSA to wrap up home slate facing Memphis and Florida Atlantic

The 'Runners will host a Salute to Armed Forces on Friday, ahead of Senior Day on Sunday

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA volleyball team will wrap up the home slate this week as they face Memphis at 6 p.m. in a Salute to Armed Forces presented by USAA on Friday, ahead of noon Senior Day match against Florida Atlantic on Sunday.   

The Roadrunners (8-17, 2-10 The American) fell to Tulane (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) and Rice (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) last time out.

Despite the results, UTSA remains the league leader in blocks per set with 2.25, and they are third in total blocks, boasting 202.5. Additionally, the squad is fifth in digs, with 1,356.

Individually, sophomore Kai Bailey is slotted fourth on the blocks per set leader board with 1.06, and senior Mia Soerensen is fourth in total blocks with 87.

The Tigers (11-13, 5-7 The American) suffered a defeat at the hands of East Carolina (25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23) before besting North Texas (25-16, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21).

Memphis tops the conference in aces per set and ranks 35th nationally with a 1.80 mark, and 157 aces also lead the league.

Jordan Heatherly and Abigail Schlueter have played major roles in the success of the service line, with Heatherly posting 38 aces and Schlueter 32. Heatherly also leads the team in assists at 829 and Schlueter in digs, scooping 361 of the opposition's attacks. Hannah Jones paces the offense with 280 kills, while Clara Bednarik boasts 63.0 blocks.

The Owls (14-10, 6-6 The American) couldn't overcome a potent South Florida (26-28, 25-18, 25-19, 25-18) squad but bested Temple (25-11, 25-21, 25-23) last week.

Victoria Hensley has been one of the best setters in the AAC thus far, with 971 assists and an average of 10.67 per set. Katelynn Robine and Valeria Rosada have powered the offense with 279 and 262 kills, respectively. Rosada is also the team's ace leader with 25 and in digs with 242. Madison Dyer has posted 73.0 blocks and Kaila Ru, 70.0.
