Buxton earns CSC Academic All-District honors

AUSTIN, Texas — UTSA defensive lineman Jameian Buxton has been selected to the 2024 Academic All-District® Football Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).

Buxton has recorded a 3.50 GPA as a multidisciplinary studies major. A member of the 2023-24 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, he recently wrapped up his sophomore season as a key member of the defensive line to help the Roadrunners cap a 7-6 season with their second straight bowl win in the 44-15 victory over Coastal Carolina in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

Buxton played in all 13 games in 2024, logging 17 total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He registered a season-high three tackles in road games at Tulsa and Army, while his first career sack came in the home triumph over Florida Atlantic. The New Orleans native helped UTSA break the school record for tackles for loss in a season for the second year in a row. The Roadrunners racked up 114 TFLs, good for an average of 8.8 per game to lead The American and currently rank third nationally as of Jan. 7. UTSA also turned in 42 sacks this past season to pace the league and stand fifth in the FBS with 3.23 sacks per contest.

The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Among other criteria, honorees must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. With this year’s honoree, the UTSA football program now has a total of 17 academic all-district selections.
