Former UTSA pitcher Luke Malone was named the program’s Director of Player Development and Analytics in October 2024.

Malone was a star pitcher for the Roadrunners from 2020 to 2023, earning all-conference accolades in each of his final two seasons. The right-hander finished his career with a 17-9 record, 4.45 ERA, 178 strikeouts and a pair of saves in 63 appearances that totaled 234.2 innings pitched.

In 2023, Malone earned second-team All-Conference USA accolades after posting six wins and 77 strikeouts in 16 appearances. In 2022, the Round Rock, Texas, native was a first-team all-conference selection after going 9-3 with two saves across 19 appearances, including 11 starts. He led the league in wins and posted a 2.67 ERA with 62 strikeouts against only 14 walks in 87.2 innings of work. He also landed on the Conference USA All-Tournament Team after helping lead the Roadrunners to the championship game, beginning with a record-setting appearance in the opening game where he came on in relief after the first two batters reached and scattered six hits over nine frames to set a tournament record for most relief innings pitched.

A two-time Conference USA All-Academic Team performer, Malone made the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in 2022 and 2023. He also was a four-time Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient and league honor roll member. He landed on the UTSA’s President’s List twice and was a two-time Dean’s List honoree, earning his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2021 and his master’s degree in kinesiology and health in 2023.

Malone currently pitches for the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer Baseball League, an MLB Partner League. He has earned eight wins and struck out 108 batters in 41 appearances over the past two seasons. As a starter in 2024, he finished in the top five in the league in ERA and was a midseason all-star selection after starting his pro career as a reliever the year prior.
